April is Child Abuse Prevention Month when communities across the country work together with a shared vision of all children growing up in safe and loving homes. Get involved this month and help us build awareness about child abuse prevention and raise critical funds for children and families in need. Child abuse is preventable, but no one can do it alone. Let's work together to help children, families and communities thrive.

Shelter Launches Prevention Month with Two New Community Events

Resilience Film Screening
On April 4, Shelter hosted a free screening and guided discussion of the film Resilience at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. RESILIENCE is a one-hour documentary that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. A guided discussion was led by Jennifer Samartano, Prevention Specialist for Prevent Child Abuse Illinois.

Red Dot - Blue Pinwheel Art Sale & Social
On April 6, Shelter hosted Red Dot - Blue Pinwheel at the Empty Corner, Arlington Heights' newest gallery space. Original art created by children in our care, Shelter staff, and friends of Shelter was available for purchase with proceeds benefitting Shelter's programs. Guests enjoyed wine, small bites and an evening of art buying. Thank you to all who made this event a great success! Click here to see the event in action.
