How Much Do YOU Know?

National Human Trafficking Awareness Month is recognized annually in the United States in January to bring attention and opposition to human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

According to the White House, the people most vulnerable to human trafficking in the U.S. include youth in the welfare or juvenile justice system, runaway and homeless youth, undocumented immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and people with substance use disorder.

Trafficking happens in every state and in every community. Together, we CAN stop the trafficking of children, but it all starts with knowing the facts. So take the following quiz and be ready to make a difference!

Please join us in welcoming Patrick Price to Shelter, Inc. as our new Director of Development. Patrick has more than 20 years of experience working in nonprofit fund development, coordinating annual and online giving drives, endowment and capital campaigns, special events, social media fundraisers, and so much more. Patrick has launched marketing and advocacy campaigns for a regional hospice, senior care center, and LGBT community center. He is a longtime member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Chicago Council of Planned Giving, for which he served as Board secretary.

Patrick lives in Arlington Heights with his husband Dan and a very rambunctious four-year-old Catahoula leopard hound named Comet and three-year-old terrier named Bullet. He is a collector of art and Ojibwa tribal artifacts. We are thrilled to have Patrick on board to lead our Development team.

Thank you to the many donors who helped support our year-end fundraising through annual contributions, monthly giving, and increased gifts this year. A warm welcome to the many new donors who joined the Shelter, Inc. family of supporters with a first-time gift.
Together we can build a brighter future.

Every year the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County coordinates an unsheltered homeless count called the Point in Time (PIT) Count. During this single night, dozens of volunteers canvass the streets and attempt to count every person living outside in suburban Cook County and connect them to resources. The results of the Unsheltered Point in Time Count are reported to the federal government in order to secure funds for homelessness programs and create a baseline for continued efforts to end homelessness in suburban Cook County.
