"The TLP Has Changed My Life."

Shelter's Transitional Living Program gives many of our young people something they’ve never had: a real chance at a successful, independent life. For nearly a decade, Shelter's TLP has been operating successfully and safely in Arlington Heights. But now we need a new home with more space and more modern safety features. We have recently purchased a property in Arlington Heights that will allow more of our young people facing extremely difficult circumstances--like Christian-- to overcome abuse, neglect, abandonment, and homelessness, and become productive members of our community.

We are seeking a special use permit from the Village of Arlington Heights to operate the TLP at this new site. There have been a lot of calls and emails against the TLP and we need for the Village to hear from us. There are a few ways that your voice can be heard.

  1. Email the Arlington Heights Planning Commission at shubbard@vah.com as well as each member of the Village Board to show your support for the TLP program. Click here for email addresses.
  2. Share this information with your Arlington Heights friends, neighbors and colleagues and encourage their support.
  3. On Wednesday, September 22, the Arlington Heights Planning Commission will meet to discuss the project. This meeting will be held virtually and is open to the public. Attend the Plan Commission meeting via Zoom and speak on behalf of Shelter. Specific details on how to access and participate in this online hearing will be available at www.vah.com no later than September 17, 2021.

We hope that the Plan Commission will vote in support of the special use zoning permit at the September 22 meeting. If the Plan Commission does not vote to recommend approval of the special use permit, the project still goes before the full Village Board at a later date. We will then need a super majority of votes in favor of the permit.
